This fabric is an evolution of a military textile originally developed for tropical climates over half a century ago, refined using Japan's unique weaving techniques. While it bears a resemblance to "Panama weave" fabrics, it is distinct; the use of slub yarn creates a textured surface, and the mesh-like structure ensures comfort during summer wear.
While the fabric's utility has already been proven by history, it has been further enhanced by a weaving mill in Banshu—the only one in Japan possessing this specific century-old expertise—through a unique process that improves breathability. Additionally, the fabric features areas of varying density; when dyed, the dye takes differently across the surface—appearing lighter in high-density areas and penetrating deeply into low-density areas—causing the pattern to emerge like a shadow.
